According to Charity:Water.org, unsafe water and lack of basic sanitation cause 80% of diseases and kill more people every year than all forms of violence, including war. Many waterborn diseases are preventable. The UN predicts that one tenth of the global disease burden can be prevented simply by improving water supply and sanitation.

The Nourish Collective, in partnership with Body Balms, has written an instructional, step-by-step manual for making handmade soap for personal use or sale. The manual, intended for use in developing nations as part of a comprehensive vocational or small business development program, includes basic education on disease prevention from use of soap and handwashing and basic business development topics including pricing, accounting, and marketing.

The Nourish Collective is currently developing community-based education seminars that accompany the written manual. Depending on the location and attendees, additional topics may include training on bloodborne pathogens, sterilization, and natural health alternatives.
